It’s been 50 years since Dr. Martin Luther King, James Bevel, Hosea Williams, and many other brave people participated in the 54 mile Selma marches to help bring equality and end discrimination in voting polls. Though each step was in the direction of progress, American society still has a long way to go with the perception of our young Black males.

Our young Black men are being murdered and targeted it seems for sport (as seen by the actions of the Miami police who were using mug shots of black men as target practice). We deal with the indignities of “justifiable homicides,” where not only do the killers go free, but some of them are better-off than they started. Killing our Black men has become a profitable business, for the likes of people like George Zimmerman and Darren Wilson (whose donations have been well above $500,000).

We want to help our young men feel valuable in a society that demonstrates constant disdain by making them feel worthless. To help instill a feeling of greatness in our young men we are having a conference. In conjunction with several local organizations, we are presenting the “Saving Our Sons” Conference to help our young Black men between the ages of 12-18 in developing self-assurance and confidence. This half day conference is scheduled for April 2nd, 2015, from 12pm-4pm, at 6901 State Street in East St. Louis, IL

Through this conference, we want to educate, encourage, and guide our Black teens to help put them in a place to enjoy their lives while living to the fullest. We want these young people to know that, even though, there are negative images about them, people are willing to help move those who desire it to the next level.

We would like to gift each participant with belts, Bibles, scholarships to get their GEDs, inspirational books, and other things to help get them on a path of greatness. We have amazing, uplifting speakers, like critically acclaimed author Roosevelt Mitchell III and author Ray Coleman.   We are seeking donations to help us continue to provide provisions for the guests and their parents.

An African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” In that vein, we hope with your assistance we can be able to save many more, so they can continue the cycle of growth, love, and life.

We are looking for local businesses to make donations to help achieve our goals in this conference. Whatever you can give will be appreciated. We look forward to hearing from you. Please call us at 314-306-2972 if you have any questions or need us to pick up the donations. You can also mail donations to us at P.O. Box 2535, Florissant, MO 63033. Whatever you can do will be appreciate.

Thanking you in advance.
